Grundtvigs Kirke, Copenhagen

The Grundtvigs Kirke in Copenhagen is a masterclass in designing a building with a single material in mind.

There are very few cut or special bricks used to construct the building yet the sizes of the architectural features feel correct and not forced to accommodate the constraints of the standard brick dimensions.

Even the unadorned brickwork has subtle modulations with pairs of coursing ‘slipping’ half a brick and vertically laid banding at the base, halfway and top of the walls and columns.
