The shrine sits in a natural setting but stands apart from it due to its intense colours.

As the shrine ages and the colours subdue it settles into its environment. The use of natural materials and pigments means it ages in a sympathetic manner to its surroundings.

The stone lantern (toro) is inlaid with decorated rice paper so the flame can be sheltered but still give out light. Although the inset is rectangular the aperture behind is circular representing the sun.
